Zoom in and show off Maine’s the Midcoast

The Midcoast Maine Chamber Council (MCCC), a regional marketing organization comprised of seven chambers of commerce from Brunswick to Searsport, has announced a "Regional Photo Contest" offering residents of Midcoast, Maine the opportunity to share their view of the Midcoast Region, promote tourism, and possibly win 50% off a photography workshop at the Maine Media Workshops or a vacation in the region.

Eligible participants may enter the contest by submitting photos in any or all of six categories: agriculture, boat building, fairs and festivals, landscape, lighthouses and performing arts.

The grand prize-winner in each category will receive 50% off a photography workshop at the Maine Media Workshops during the 2009 season, be featured in the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Discovery Coast Magazine, and on Down East magazine’s online component downeast.com and www.mainesmidcoast.com. Second prize winners in each category will win a trip in Midcoast Maine valued at not less than $500 and third prize winners will receive a regional tourism package valued at not less than $300.

Judges will include Bob Hastings (Executive Director of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce), Lynn Karlin (a Belfast resident and the photographer of the recently published Garden Maine Style, Act II), and Kate Izor (Photography Program Manager at Maine Media Workshops). Winners will be notified by the beginning of February. Criteria judges will be considering will include creativity, lighting, relevancy to topic, and composition.

Contest Rules
The Contest begins July 15, 2008 and ends November 15, 2008. All entries must be received by the entry deadline. Entrants retain copyright of their photographs, but by entering them into this contest permit unrestricted usage by MCCC and member chambers of commerce to promote the region, without receiving any fee or compensations.

To enter please send a CD with the image(s) formatted in JPEG or TIFF measuring at least 1,000 pixels at 300 dpi care of SK Public Relations to 50-5 Howard Street Somerville, MASS 02144.
Images may be color or black & white. Each submitted photograph must be a single work of original material taken by the contest entrant. Entrants must be prepared to provide a signed release form for all persons who appear in the photograph submitted. The entrant must be a resident of Midcoast Maine (part-time residency is acceptable). Maximum number of entries is twenty per entrant. There is no entry fee.

For over 34 years this international school has been offering hundreds of one- and two-week workshops and for photographers, filmmakers and media artists. Programs are available for working professionals, serious amateurs, and high school and college students. Professional certificate and MFA programs are also available through Rockport College.
