Winter Events

January 15, 2010

A rundown of cool happenings in the MidCoast this winter.

The Camden Winterfest returns to the Historic Bok Amphitheater in downtown Camden overlooking the prettiest harbor in Maine for the 8th annual community celebration of winter over the weekend of January 30 & 31, 2010.

This popular event is presented by The Camden Public Library and its Committee for Harbor Parks and Amphitheatre along with local sponsors. The parks will be filled with food, theater, music and art for children of all ages.

The community ice carving is open to local businesses. If you would like to have a team at Winterfest and carve an ice creation for your business contact the Camden Rockport Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce.

Kick off your boots and go dancing at the first ever Snow Ball, to be held at the Rockport Opera House on Saturday, January 30. Move your feet to the sounds of Maine’s own 80s Band, “The Awesome.”  The Rockport Opera House doors open at 6:30 PM with savory hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a cash bar, and the music and dancing begins at 7:30 PM. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at HAV II in Camden, Bikesenjava in Rockland, and Wild Rufus Records in Belfast. Ticket price is $35 each, and all proceeds will benefit the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area Redevelopment (home of the Camden Snow Bowl).

Friends of the Harbor Theatre in Boothbay Harbor has set its Wednesday Night at the Movies schedule for this winter.  The series runs Wednesday evenings January 27 – April 7 at 7:00 PM, and includes a group of current indie films, mostly released in 2009, that portray the human spirit, teach us about another culture, or just plain entertain. Cost for the six movies is $60 ($50 for Friends of the Harbor Theatre).  Folks are asked to subscribe now, by January 20th, as forty (40) people are needed to help underwrite the series. Forms are available at the Harbor Theatre and at the Chamber office. The Friends advise that if you cannot use all your tickets, you may pass them to a friend or save for the next Wednesday night series – the tickets will be honored next time around.
