Fort Knox State Park
Prospect, Route 174
Maine’s largest, historic fort is a stunning example of granite craftsmanship and military architecture. Constructed in the mid-1800’s, the fort was located on the Penobscot Narrows to protect the valley from a possible, future British naval attack. The nearby Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory offers a spectacular 360-degree view. The Observatory is the world’s tallest public observatory bridge.
