Growing MidCoast Tourism and Supporting MidCoast Communities
Maine’s MidCoast & Islands (MMI) is a non-profit organization promoting tourism to the region. Everything we do is driven by the our mission of increasing tourist visits to the MidCoast. This benefits every tourism business—large or small—up and down the coast from Brunswick to Searsport to Vinalhaven, and inland to Union and Freedom. We are funded annually (along with seven other regions) by a grant from the Maine Office of Tourism and have worked to bring visitors here for more than 20 years.
MMI’s Board is comprised of chamber of commerce directors from each chamber in the region, and we meet on the second Friday of each month. Tourism partners are welcome to attend meetings and encouraged to communicate with us and take advantage of opportunities to benefit directly from our work.
A few examples of MMI initiatives include:
- Managing and creating content for this website (mainesmidcoast.com)
- Designing, printing and distributing ~50,000 travel guides with maps each year that highlight events, activities, downtowns and natural beauty
- Managing social media content and engagement, including regular posts, hiring influencers, responding to posts and requests
- Growing our social channel followers (over 50,000 as of March 2024)
- Sending email blasts to our list of over 75,000 subscribers who opted to hear more about us
- Creating and managing digital ad campaigns
- Managing a constantly growing library of photo and video assets
- Running promotions
- Reaching out to tourism-related businesses in the region to educate, build relationships, and leverage our resources and efforts
