The MidCoast’s natural beauty is waiting for you all year round. Here in New England’s largest state, we welcome the distinctly varied weather and seasons, each with its own appeal. Our weather is tempered by the ocean which brings slightly milder summer and winter temperatures. MidCoast summers are amazing, but spring offers uncrowded trails; autumn’s colors inspire; and winter brings a wonderland of activities!

MidCoast summers are generally mild to warm with high temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to low 80s. Nights can be cooler, especially close to the ocean. The season is relatively dry though occasional rainstorms are common. Our summers feature wonderfully long days with early sunrises and very late sunsets. If your idea of a summer vacation is enjoying the outdoors or watching the sunset over the ocean, you’ve found your destination.
In early September the weather can still feel like summer with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s, but as the season progresses into November, the highs will be in the 40s and 50s. Peak fall foliage arrives in October and signals shorter days with daylight savings time ending in November. This is the best time of the year for hiking, climbing, apple picking, and crisp walks along our beaches.
Winters are cold with average highs in the 30s, but prolonged cold spells are rare. Compared to inland regions, the temperatures and snowfalls are lower because of the moderating effect of the ocean. Our occasional coastal storms, known as “Nor’easters”, can bring significant snowfalls and high winds. Winter in the MidCoast can make for great snowshoeing, fat bike riding, and skiing. Bundle up, bring a friend, and plan extra time for hot cider or cocoa!
The weather in March starts off cold with nighttime temperatures below freezing, but the days gradually warm up with highs reaching the 50s and 60s in May. Increasing sunshine brings out everything good about Maine. Snowfields are melting and wildflowers are blooming along the coast. Villages and inns are opening up and can’t-miss places are yours to enjoy without summertime crowds.
